A Story of Savasana

The following story is a fictionalized narrative based on my experience of what it’s like to practice savasana at the end of a yoga class. It is not based on any particular person I know in real life, and I chose the name “Maya” as the main character. Hope you enjoy!

On the Path to Inner Peace

The yoga class had been long and challenging, but as she lay in savasana, Maya felt a deep sense of peace and tranquility. She had been feeling stressed and overwhelmed all week, but after the class, she felt completely relaxed and at ease.

She closed her eyes and took a few deep breaths, savoring the feeling of her body sinking into the mat. She could feel the tension slowly melting away from her muscles, and her mind began to clear. She thought about the poses she had done in class, and how each one had helped her to focus on her breath and her body.

The creak of the hardwood floor beneath her mat was a welcome sound, reminding her that she was grounded and present. The whoosh of air through the window brought with it the scent of jasmine from the garden outside, and she could hear the birds chirping in the trees.

The symphony of breath in the room was a soothing sound, and she could hear the instructor’s voice guiding her through the final relaxation pose. She felt the sweet sweet balance between effort and ease, and the energy radiating through her body.

She took a few more deep breaths, and then she slowly rose from the mat. She felt like a phoenix rising from the ashes, reborn into a new day. She was refreshed and invigorated, and she knew that she was ready to take on the world.

As she walked out of the studio, she could feel the sun on her skin and the breeze in her hair. She took a deep breath of the fresh air, and she smiled. She was ready to start her new day.
