Journaling Prompts for Handling Change

My greatest wish for you is not that things will go back to how they were, but that you have the courage to expand into your greatest potential.

In this time of transition, have you felt changes in your friendships, relationships, career calling, or home life?

Think of a situation in your life that is transforming. Notice how it feels. Is it uncertain? Exciting? Nerve-wracking?

I don’t know about you, but change is often chaotic and uncertain. When I’m not careful, that uncertainty turns into overwhelm and anxiety, so I’m sharing some journaling prompts that help me reframe change, just in case they’re helpful for you too.

Call to mind the changing situation you’d like to feel good about, and read on.

Ask these questions when you’re dealing with change:

  1. What lesson is this situation trying to show you/ teach you?
  2. What’s the greatest opportunity for yourself? What about the people around you? Then, what happens in your body when you soften into the expansive possibility of your vision?
  3. What gives you energy and how can you follow your energy?
  4. Imagine the calendar year is 2023 (or two years after the date you’re reading this). You’ve overcome all the things that you worried about today. You’re happy and thriving. Describe what your life looks like at that point. With that vision in mind, what is the step for you to take now?
  5. What biological support are you giving yourself? (Sleep, food, water, exercise, hygiene, etc.)

As I write this, the calendar reads “July 2021” but I have a sneaking feeling that change isn’t limited to this moment. Doesn’t it feel like there’s always something changing?

These questions are not meant to smear over the unpleasant parts of change, but rather it’s to help expand your perspective to see the possibilities and opportunities – because there’s always something to grow and learn from.

If you give these a try, I’d love to know how they work for you!
