Yoga changed my life

Hi, my name’s Rachel Red. I started practicing yoga in 2008, and for me it was mostly about mental health. Let me tell ya, it has been life-changing! It started as a weekly routine that helped me find my footing (literally and figuratively) during my teenage years. Later it kept me grounded into college and beyond. I’ve had great teachers who asked intriguing questions that changed the trajectory of my mindset and allowed me to embrace life more fully. I decided to become a teacher because I know how important it is to feel safe and at peace in your life.

After embarking on a professional career after college, I went for my 200-hour teaching certification. With over a decade of experience as a yoga student, I completed the teacher training program at Namaste Yoga in Royal Oak, MI and then registered with the Yoga Alliance as a teacher in 2019. While yoga doesn’t replace western medicine or professional therapy, it can be a tremendously useful practice to have in your mental health toolbox. My goal is to empower my students to feel safe, comfortable, and at home in their physical being.

Living the practice

As a marketing professional, yoga must fit into my life among lots of other commitments. To me, that means the path of yoga is not a task to accomplish, but rather it’s a way of being. When students like you take the time out of your busy lives to be with yourself on your mat, I honor your commitment because I know it isn’t always easy.

As a teacher, I will show you how to flow through the postures in class and how to integrate yogic principles into your daily life so that your tools are ready when you need them. And if life gets in the way and you have to skip class, there’s room for that too. We are all trying to live the best we can with what we have.
